Camping Charllottensund Fort

Date of visit : June 2004

This popular and excellent but expensive site is located on the north side of Copenhagen about a 35 minute bus ride from the centre (cost DKK17 one way). It is built within a 19th century moated fort and many guns still remain in position. It is located next to the sea and within level parkland. There is an adjacent restaurant and local shops are about 500 metres away with the bus stop for wheelchair friendly busses into Copenhagen being about 200 meters away. Reception is wheelchair accessible and the main tarmac site road leads to small level grass pitches. Electricity is charge for by the unit and a swipe card is issued to operate the entrance barrier and this also stores purchased cash units to operate washing machines and hot water for the showers.

Toilet facilities for disabled : These are built in an old fort store room and are easily accessed but are not of the best standard. The wheel in fixed head shower lacked any seating or hand rails and the card operated reader for hot water was difficult to reach. The washbasin was accessible and located at the right height.

Entrance width : No problems

Room size : Large no problem

Toilet Height : 45cms folding handrails either side
